Mets' Jacob deGrom targeting 100-pitch Opening Day
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom plans to throw 85 pitches in his final tune-up before Opening Day.
That puts deGrom on track for a normal 100-pitch workload for the start of the season. The 32-year-old right-hander is seeking his third consecutive National League Cy Young Award. He spun a 2.43 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 255 strikeouts and 44 walks over 204 innings last year while going 11-8 in 32 starts.
numberFire's models project deGrom for a 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 96 strikeouts and 18 walks this season.
