Francisco Mejia reportedly impressing at Padres camp

San Diego Padres catcher Francisco Mejia has "looked sharp" in the Padres' first two intrasquad games, per sources of AJ Cassavell of MLB.com.

What It Means:

The games have been closed to the media, but it's encouraging to hear after Mejia went 0-for-15 in Cactus League play this spring. Cassavell suggests the Padres may decide to use Mejia as their primary designated hitter for the upcoming 60-game run. That would make Austin Hedges the club's top backstop, followed by Luis Torrens. Mejia hit .265/.316/.438 with 8 homers, 22 RBI, and 27 runs scored in 244 plate appearances (79 games) in his first season with the Padres.

numberFire's models expect Mejia to hit .258 with 5 homers, 16 RBI, and 16 runs scored in 143 plate appearances this season.
