Joe Ross not participating in Nationals season
Washington Nationals pitcher Joe Ross has decided not to play in the 2020 season.
What It Means:
The Nationals announced in an official statement that Ross and teammate Ryan Zimmerman have both opted to sit out "for the personal health and safety of themselves and their loved ones." Ross was expected to compete for a spot in the Nationals' rotation. The 27-year-old right-hander's decision figures to improve Austin Voth's chances of earning the fifth starting spot.
Ross owns a career 4.29 ERA and 20.3 strikeout percentage in 335 1/3 total innings (57 starts, 21 relief appearances). Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the Nationals have the seventh-best odds (+1800) to win the 2020 World Series.
