Chad Bettis retires after 7 seasons

Pitcher Chad Bettis has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball after 164 career appearances.

What It Means:

The 31-year old was attempting to make a comeback with the Yankees on a minor league contract but decided to hang up his cleats after resuming his throwing program. "Today I am walking away from the game with my head held high, knowing that I pushed my body as far as it could go physically," said Bettis during his announcement.

In 92 total starts, Bettis will end his MLB career with 31 wins and a 4.59 FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching Metric). The veteran right-hander produced his best statistical season in 2015 when he recorded 2.4 Wins Above Replacement and a 3.85 FIP.
