Red Sox's Chris Sale undergoes Tommy John
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale underwent Tommy John surgery, per Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.
The Red Sox announced earlier this month that Sale needed the surgery, but there were scheduling complications due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The left-hander, who turned 31 today, will not be ready to return until after the start of the 2021 season.
Sale recorded a 4.40 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 218 strikeouts and 37 walks across 147 1/3 innings last season. He went 6-11 in 25 starts.
