A.J. Puk diagnosed with shoulder strain for Oakland
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher A.J. Puk has been diagnosed with a left shoulder strain, the team announced Wednesday morning.
What It Means:
Head coach Bob Melvin said that the young pitcher will be shut down for the time being, which would leave his status for Opening Day in severe doubt. Puk was in line for a spot in the starting rotation when the season began before the injury.
In 11.3 career big-league innings, Puk has a 3.18 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP and 13 strikeouts.
