Jake McGee headed to Rockies in Corey Dickerson trade

The Colorado Rockies have acquired reliever Jake McGee from the Tampa Bay Rays as part of the Corey Dickerson trade, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

What It Means:

McGee is one of "multiple pitchers" being sent to Colorado, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Sherman mentioned the deal involves minor leaguers, as well. The Rockies' bullpen struggled in the late innings last season -- their combined reliever xFIP was fifth worst -- which is something McGee can help improve. With McGee not competing for saves in Tampa, Brad Boxberger is set to become the Rays' full-time closer.

McGee pitched just 37 1/3 innings last season but had a solid 2.91 xFIP, just slightly worse than his career total of 2.88. His 32.7 strikeout percentage was significantly higher the league average of 20.4 percent, and it's no fluke -- he owns a 30.8 strikeout percentage for his career.
