Brett Lawrie, White Sox avoid arbitration with $4.125 million deal
The Chicago White Sox and third baseman Brett Lawrie avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.125 million contract.
The Sox acquired Lawrie from the Oakland Athletics last month. The infielder, who played third base primarily in 2015, is expected to play second base with the Sox.
Lawrie batted .260/.299/.407 with 16 homers and 60 RBI this past season, well below expectations for the former top prospect. Over the last three years, his walk rate has decreased from 6.8 percent down to 4.7 percent, and his strikeout rate has climbed from 15.4 percent to 23.9 percent. His 0.6 Wins Above Replacement ranked 19th among second basemen in 2015.
