Joey Votto lands on Reds' injured list with back strain

The Cincinnati Reds placed first baseman Joey Votto on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to August 15, with a lower back strain.

What It Means:

Votto hasn't played since Wednesday and it's not clear how long he will be on the shelf. Josh VanMeter has been covering first base and the two-hole for the Reds. Brian O'Grady was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding roster move.

Votto is hitting .262/.352/.410 with 12 homers, 25 doubles, 39 RBI, 4 steals, and 60 scores in 486 plate appearances (113 games) this season.
