Cardinals option pitcher Tyler Lyons to Triple-A
The Cardinals optioned lefty Tyler Lyons to Triple-A. He pitched 5.2 innings yesterday against the Cubs, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while only striking out three.
Lyons came up for a spot start as part of a doubleheader. He has six big league starts this year with a 5.02 ERA, but a much better 3.43 xFIP says he's actually pitched well. Even given his subpar strikeout total yesterday, he struck out 9.73 batters per nine innings. If he gets another chance, he could make an interesting play against a team that struggles against lefties.
