New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway said after Monday's game that reliever Edwin Diaz is the club's closer "and is going to be our closer."
Callaway was a bit more ambiguous when asked about the closer role on Sunday, but it appears confidence has not waned. This came after Diaz allowed a walk and plunked a batter, but he fanned 2 and didn't allow a run for the first time in four outings.
Diaz owns a 5.32 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 71 strikeouts and 16 walks in 44 innings (48 games) this season. He's converted 24-of-29 saves.
