Matt Carpenter (foot) placed on Cardinals' injured list
The St. Louis Cardinals placed third baseman Matt Carpenter on the 10-day injured list with a right foot contusion.
Carpenter was pulled from Monday's game versus the Pittsburgh Pirates in the seventh inning after fouling a ball off his right foot. X-rays came back negative, but he'll still hit the shelf for at least 10 days. The Cardinals called up infielder Edmundo Sosa from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding roster move.
Carpenter is hitting .215/.321/.372 with 10 homers, 12 doubles, 29 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 6 steals in 342 plate appearances (81 games) this season.
