Angels' Andrelton Simmons (ankle) begins rehab stint Tuesday

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons (ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with the Angels' rookie league affiliate.

What It Means:

Simmons suffered a Grade 3 left ankle sprain less than a month ago, so it's relatively remarkable that he's already on the verge of a return. The Angels will likely have Simmons play in multiple rehab games before activating him.

Simmons was slashing .298/.323/.415 with 3 homers, 13 doubles, 21 RBI, 22 runs scored, and 5 steals across 195 plate appearances this season before the injury.
