Oakland's Stephen Piscotty (melanoma) not expected to land on IL

Oakland Athletics outfielder Stephen Piscotty is not expected to need a stint on the injured list despite undergoing surgery to remove a melanoma from his ear.

What It Means:

Piscotty is out of the lineup on Friday but could return to action sometime this weekend. Manager Bob Melvin told reporters that Piscotty gets his stitches removed next week but could play while the stitches are still in his ear. Chad Pinder is starting in his place on against the Seattle Mariners on Friday.

Piscotty is batting .250 with 8 homers and 34 runs scored over 288 plate appearances this season.
