Kansas City Royals second baseman Nicky Lopez is not starting in Sunday afternoon's series finale versus right-hander Adrian Sampson and the Texas Rangers.
It's Lopez's first day off since making his major league debut last month. He's gone just 4-for-35 over the last eight games. Whit Merrifield is covering second base and leadoff duties Sunday.
