Michael Pineda (knee) placed on Twins' injured list

The Minnesota Twins placed Michael Pineda on the 10-day injured list with right knee tendinitis.

What It Means:

Pineda started on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts over six innings, but the Twins' bullpen cost him the victory. It's not clear when the 30-year-old right-hander picked up the injury or how long it will keep him out. The Twins recalled Devin Smeltzer from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding roster move. Smeltzer will make his major league debut Tuesday versus the Brewers.

Pineda has allowed exactly 3 runs in five straight starts. He's gone 4-3 in 11 starts while recording a 5.34 ERA with 50 strikeouts and 11 walks over 59 innings.
