Monell's two run double leads Mets over Giants

Johnny Monell stuck it to his former team Monday night, ripping a two run double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Mets a 2-0 lead over the Giants.

What It Means:

Monell's had a terrible offensive season (.189/.250/.243), but has been a very solid hitter in the minors and has a bat the Mets hope can be somewhat productive in a backup role. The 29 year-old is hitting .273 in July, so maybe more production is on the horizon. However, he's stuck behind Kevin Plawecki and Travis d'Arnaud (upon his return), so Monell does not offer much fantasy value.
