Indians' Mike Clevinger (back) shut down 6-8 weeks
Cleveland Indians Mike Clevinger (back) will be shut down for 6-8 weeks, manager Terry Francona said Tuesday morning.
Francona said Clevinger won't even be able to pick up a baseball until then. The 28-year-old right-hander was lifted from Sunday's start with what turned out to be a significant back strain. The Indians recalled right-hander Nick Wittgren from Triple-A Columbus to take Clevinger's spot on the roster.
Clevinger was off to a terrific start in 2019, as he had picked up 22 strikeouts over 12 scoreless innings with a magnificent 0.50 WHIP.
