Mets promote Kirk Niewenhuis, demote Darrell Ceciliani
The Mets promoted outfielder Kirk Niewenhuis Monday afternoon, sending outfielder Darrell Ceciliani back to Triple-A Las Vegas.
This is an attempt by the offensively-inept Mets to spice up their offense, but it's going to take more than this to save the season. Ceciliani was by no means impressive (.206/.270/.279), but Kirk managed to be even worse in his time in the majors (.100/.156/.167). Neither of these guys mean anything to a fantasy player. Kirk has shown flashes of good offense in past years, but until he can get consistent and stop striking out so much (he's struck out in 40.6% of his at bats this season), he is close to useless.
