Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jordan Lyles (side) will make his club debut Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds.
Lyles opened the season on the 10-day injured list due to cramping in his side that delayed his spring buildup. He threw 92 pitches across six innings Sunday in a simulated game without issue. The 28-year-old right-hander signed with the Pirates as a free agent this past winter. He recorded a 4.11 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 84 strikeouts and 28 walks over 87 2/3 innings last season between the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers.
numberFire's models expect Lyles to spin a 4.52 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 90 K and 35 BB across 111 2/3 innings in 2019.
