Will Smith will secure saves for San Francisco this season
San Francisco Giants reliever Will Smith will be the team's closer, manager Bruce Bochy confirmed Thursday.
Smith beat out Mark Melancon for the ninth-inning gig. Melancon posted an ugly 9.45 ERA over 6 2/3 frames in the spring, so Reyes Moronta may be the next man up if Smith struggles or suffers an injury.
numberFire's models expect Smith to pick up 27 saves and record a 2.81 ERA with 80 strikeouts and 21 walks this season.
