Dustin Pedroia (knee) to begin year on Red Sox's injured list
Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (knee) will begin the season on the injured list.
Pedroia hasn't suffered any setbacks, but the Red Sox want him to continue to work his way up to game shape. The 35-year-old veteran will remain in Grapefruit League games through the beginning of next week before switching to extended spring training. There isn't a set date for Pedroia to return, but barring any setbacks, an April debut seems likely. Brock Holt and Eduardo Nunez will split second base duties for Boston in the meantime.
Prior to this announcement, numberFire's models expected Pedroia to bat .267 with 7 home runs, 40 RBI, 49 runs scored, and 1 steal across 400 plate appearances in 2019.
