The Baltimore Orioles optioned outfielder Austin Hays to Triple-A Norfolk.
Hays crushed it at the plate this spring, slashing .351/.385/.892 with 5 home runs and 13 RBI across 40 plate appearances, but he missed a significant portion of last season due to injury and has never played at the Triple-A level. The 23-year-old will likely work his way into a starting role later on in the season.
Hays slashed .217/.238/.317 with 1 homer, 8 RBI, and 16 strikeouts over 63 plate appearances during a brief taste of the majors back in 2017.
