Yankees intend to use one starting first baseman
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Thursday that there will not be a platoon at first base this season.
"It's tough for me to envision us having two first basemen," Boone explained, "especially when I feel like (DJ) LeMahieu would be that guy that gets backup reps there." Luke Voit and Greg Bird will compete for the starting job over the next three weeks.
numberFire's models expect Voit to bat .269 with 20 home runs, 66 RBI, and 56 runs scored over 422 plate appearances in 2019. Bird is pegged for a .232 batting average, 10 dingers, 29 RBI, and 23 runs across 223 PA.
