Tigers finalize contract with Mark Lowe

The Detroit Tigers signed reliever Mark Lowe to a two-year, $11 million contract.

What It Means:

This deal was first reported on Monday, and now it is official. After settling for a minor league deal last offseason, Lowe pitched himself into a nice contract thanks to his performance this season. The Tigers also brought in Francisco Rodriguez this winter to take over their closer role, and Lowe will presumably be his set-up man.

Lowe had a career year in 2015 with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays, posting a career-best ERA (1.96), xFIP (2.83) and strikeout percentage (28.4 percent) across 55 innings pitched. He'll help improve a Tigers' bullpen which posted the worst xFIP (4.38) in baseball this season.
