Craig Kimbrel 'extremely unlikely' to return to Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are "extremely unlikely" to re-sign closer Craig Kimbrel, club chairman Tom Werner said Monday.
If Kimbrel isn't brought back, the Red Sox will likely turn to Ryan Braiser or Matt Barnes at closer. The right-hander spent the past three seasons in Boston. He turns 31 in May.
Kimbrel converted 42 saves with a 2.74 ERA and 96 strikeouts (31 walks) across 62 1/3 innings for the Red Sox in 2018.
