The Miami Marlins have named Barry Bonds their new hitting coach.
Bonds will be the club's hitting coach while former hitting coach Frank Menechino will move to assistant hitting coach duties. It's a flashy hire for the Marlins but one that could actually pay off with substance, too; Bonds drew good reviews from the San Francisco Giants when he served as a guest instructor during spring training last season.
In 2015, the Marlins ranked 26th in the major leagues in team OPS at .694 despite an eighth-best .260 team batting average.
