Free agent catcher Dioner Navarro has signed a one-year contract with the Chicago White Sox, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
This was the result of the White Sox surprising decision to not tender Tyler Flowers on Wednesday night, who was the team's starting catcher in 2015. There may have been a verbal agreement already in place between Navarro and the club. He will join fellow free-agent signing Alex Avila as the White Sox will look a bit different behind the plate in 2016. They compliment each other well as Navarro is a switch-hitter who seems to favor matchups against lefties while Avila bats left-handed himself.
Navarro had 0.5 Wins Above Replacement in 2015 and put up a .246/.307/.374 slash with a 0.297 wOBA. This earned him a -0.19 nERD for the season.
