White Sox re-sign Jacob Turner for $1.5 mil

The Chicago White Sox signed pitcher Jacob Turner to a one-year, $1.5-million contract.

What It Means:

The White Sox decided to non-tender Turner on Wednesday, but they worked quickly to re-sign him. The ninth overall pick in 2009 did not pitch this season because of right elbow troubles, but he should be fully healthy for the 2016 season. This is a low-risk move with a potentially-high-reward while also providing some rotation depth for the White Sox.

Since Turner didn't pitch in the majors in 2015 and has less than 300 career innings pitched at baseball's highest level, there's not much to go on. He pitched 113 innings in 2014, posting a 4.05 xFIP and just a 2.15 strikeout-to-walk ratio. For reference, this total would have ranked ninth worst in baseball among starting pitchers. Turner is just 24 years-old with an uncertain outlook.
