Oakland Athletics pitcher Liam Hendriks will serve as the opener in Wednesday's American League Wild Card Game against the New York Yankees.
The A's are going with a bullpen game as they do not have a real "ace" on their staff. Hendriks has been the opener eight times this season, posting a 2.08 ERA in 8 2/3 innings. Edwin Jackson is the only Oakland starting pitcher on the roster for the Wild Card Game and could take the mound after Hendriks on Wednesday.
Hendriks has a 4.13 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 22 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched this season.
