3 FanDuel MLB Hitters to Avoid on 7/21/16
As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.
While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.
Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Thursday.
Wil Myers, 1B, San Diego Padres
FanDuel Price: $,3500
Wil Myers might not be on the Padres after July 31, but that remains to be seen. For now, he is still mashing in San Diego, but he has a tough matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals and their resurgent ace, Adam Wainwright, tonight.
Wainwright opened up the year really poorly coming off injury but is slowly starting to look like the dominant Wainwright we remember. Wainwright has allowed just one earned run in his last 23 innings, an ERA of just 0.39. He has also been really good against right-handers this season, especially lately, allowing just a .303 wOBA. Wainwright has also been lights out at home this year with a .259 wOBA against 270 batters.
Myers’ wOBA drops from .418 against lefties to .348 against righties this season, and he owns a 22.6 percent strikeout rate against pitchers of the same handedness. With his hard hit rate lower against righties as well, lay off Myers against a hot Wainwright tonight.
Martin Prado, 3B, Miami Marlins
FanDuel Price: $3,000
Martin Prado hasn’t been able to duplicate his strong seasons from back in Atlanta and Arizona since coming to Miami, but he has still been solid for the Marlins this season with a .334 wOBA. However, his power has almost disappeared this season. He has only three home runs, and he has had much less success against right-handers.
Prado owns a .304 wOBA against righties this season, and his isolated power goes all the way down to .085 against them. His hard hit rate against right-handers is only 22.9 percent this season, and with his home run totals down overall, his matchup with the Phillies’ Jerad Eickhoff seems like one to avoid.
Eickhoff has been very good against right-handers so far. Righties own a .270 wOBA against him in his career, and Eickhoff’s strikeout rate against righties is 25.6 percent. Although he hasn’t pitched as well this season, he still has a .305 wOBA against righties in 2016, so Prado looks like a player to avoid Thursday.
Max Kepler, OF, Minnesota Twins
FanDuel Price: $2,800
The Twins have to deal with knuckle-balling sensation Steven Wright Thursday night, and one player from the Twins who could have a rough time tonight is young Max Kepler. Wright’s reverse splits have been devastating to lefties this season, and Kepler has not been great against right-handed pitching this season either.
Kepler owns a .341 wOBA against righties in 2016, and his power does go up a lot against righties, so while he may be a tournament play, he's not a guarantee.
Wright has been hard to hit for lefties. They have a .252 wOBA against him this season. While Wright strikes out lefties less often than righties, Wright’s hard hit rate against lefty hitters is just 19.7 percent. With the young Kepler already struggling some against pitchers of the opposite handedness, lay off tonight.
