4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/18/15
With the Oakland A's facing Lance McCullers in his Major League debut, they could be a candidate to post a high run total.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll be providing you with four potential offenses to stack in your daily fantasy lineups. These are the offenses that provide huge run potential on that given day based on matchups and other factors.

After reading through these suggestions, make sure to check out our daily projections. These can either let you know which players to include in each stack, or which guy best complements said stack.

Another great tool is our custom optimal lineups, which are available for premium subscribers. Within the tool, we've added the option to stack teams -- you choose the team you want to stack, show how many players you want to use within the stack, and the tool will create a lineup based on this that you can then customize.

Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

Oakland Athletics

Lance McCullers looks like another one the stud prospects that the Houston Astros have in their system, and dude is legit. He throws 98 mile per hour heat according to Baseball America, and they ranked him as the number nine prospect in the system before the year. With that said, he has never started a game above Double-A as he was called up a day after being promoted to Triple-A. His long-term outlook may be dope, but there's the potential tonight could be a "welcome to the majors" moment.

The A's may have a donkey doo record this year, but that has nothing to do with the way the swing the sticks versus right-handed pitchers. They rank third in the league in wOBA off of righties behind the Dodgers and Tigers. This is especially true for Stephen Vogt and Josh Reddick, both of whom are slugging north of .650 in these situations.

The other reason I could see this as being a semi-okay stack is that McCullers's biggest strength in the minors was his ability to fan opponents, averaging more than 10 strikeouts per nine from Low-A ball up. This is Gucci and all, but the A's have the second lowest strikeout percentage in the league. Not having Ike Davis's low-priced lefty bat hurts, but there are still enough cheap A's options on DraftKings to pull this off.

Detroit Tigers

I'm not going to lie -- this slate is pretty gross for stacking. Of the teams that are in the top 10 in wOBA, only five are actually playing. One of those teams (the Blue Jays) is in an island game that will only apply if you're playing the all-day slate, so I omitted them from this column. Two others (the Indians and Cardinals) are facing dope pitchers that make hitting coaches and potential stackers weep a bit. That leaves us with the Tigers (ranked second) and the Diamondbacks (whom we'll touch on next).

The big reason I'm not totally sold on this puppy is that Mike Fiers has been much better this year than his 5.00 ERA would indicate. He has been making dudes look silly with his 12.25 strikeouts per nine innings, jacking his FIP down to 3.93. He has also been crazy unlucky, as his 15.0 percent home run to fly-ball ratio would indicate with his xFIP sitting at 3.33. Normally, I wouldn't tell you to stack against him, but like I said, this slate is devoid of good offenses, so here we are.

One area in which you can take solace is that Fiers typically doesn't last too deep into the game. His longest start was 6.1 innings this year, and he has been held to five innings or less in four of his seven starts. That gives way to a Brewers bullpen that ranks 22nd in ERA and 24th in FIP. Is it the world's greatest stack situation? Not by a long shot. But given the other options, the Tigers do at least provide hope of a nice run output.

Arizona Diamondbacks

When the Brewers fired Ron Roenicke, I said to stack against them the day after because I thought the Dodgers had a sweet matchup. Instead, Milwaukee went on to beat Clayton Kershaw, and I played the fool. I have decided to reprise that role as it seemed quite natural. Stack against the Marlins, my friends, but not because of their managerial movements. Rather, do it because the Diamondbacks could post a solid outing tonight.

If you were to evaluate Dan Haren's performance this year solely by looking at his 3.70 ERA, you'd think he'd been a'ight thus far. But when you look at his 4.97 FIP and 4.50 xFIP, you see that he's been pulling some voodoo out their on the bump. This tricky business has resulted in a .240 opponent BABIP and an 83.3 percent strand rate. This, coupled with his low 34.4 percent ground-ball rate, makes this an intriguing stack for tonight.

The big steal here for the Diamondbacks (outside of my much-discussed boo-thang David Peralta) is Ender Inciarte. Inciarte is hitting .320/.337/.474 off of righties this year, he has been holding down the leadoff duties, and he only costs $3,700 on DraftKings. I wouldn't count much on stolen bases out of him as Miami catchers have gunned down 13 of 29 attempted stealers, but he has some dope potential considering everything working in his favor in this match-up.

Philadelphia Phillies

Annnnnnnd adios to all the homies who made it this far into the piece. It was nice knowing you. Is this a dumb stack 99.999 percent of the time? You bet your darn little tushy it is. The Phillies are last -- yes, last -- in the entire league in wOBA off of right-handers. Their offense has been a-freaking-trocious this year. And, yet, here we are. Why?

The obvious answer is that they're at Coors, and the pricing is the lowest I have ever seen it for a team at said location on DraftKings. Ryan Howard is the only guy that'll run you more than $4,300. Additionally, Jordan Lyles is no Cole Hamels, and the over/under for this game is 9. So... go for it?

Lost in the shuffle of how bad the Phillies are is how good Freddy Galvis has been playing. His BABIP is unsustainably high at .393, but he is walking a decent amount and only striking out in 11.5 percent of his plate appearances. He only has four extra-base hits this year, but he could still easily exceed value at his $4,100 price tag in a park like this.

I'm not saying here that you should have Phillies across the board. I'm not saying you should have Phillies anywhere, for that matter. I'm just saying that it's an interesting stack if you're looking to get a little weird in some tourneys tonight.
