MLB Prop Bets to Target on Tuesday 10/4/22

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up (to the tune of cold hard cash) to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections as a guide and looking at the odds provided at FanDuel Sportsbook, here are some spots where you can find value today in the prop-betting market.

Here are some MLB player prop bets to make tonight.

Please note that betting lines and our game projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

Mike Trout To Record an RBI (+120)

Any time we can get a plus money prop for one of the best hitters in the league, we take it.

That would be Mike Trout to record an RBI sitting at +120 tonight. The Los Angeles Angels have a modest 3.70 implied run total tonight, but that's not high enough given their favorable matchup.

They are taking on Cole Irvin, who has been downright awful this season. He comes in allowing a .439 SLG, 4.36 xFIP, 1.32 HR/9, 18.3% strikeout rate, and .316 wOBA to right-handed hitters. All of those numbers have gotten noticeably worse since the start of September.

Since then, he is allowing a .565 SLG, 5.17 xFIP, 2.0 HR/9, 15.5% strikeout rate, and .401 wOBA in the same split.

This leads us to Trout, who has a 190 wRC+, .437 wOBA, .324 ISO, 46.3% fly-ball rate, and 45.1% hard-contact rate versus left-handed pitchers. He's as elite as he's ever been, so I'll sprinkle a little on Trout 2+ RBI (+450).

Sean Manaea Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-118)

Next up is under 5.5 strikeouts for Sean Manaea.

The second half of the season has been one to forget for Manaea. It cost him a spot in the starting rotation and had him coming out of the bullpen in some recent games.

On the season, Manaea has a modest 23.0% strikeout rate and an 11.9% swinging-strike rate. If we dig a bit deeper and take a look at his eight most recent starts since the beginning of August, Manaea posted a strikeout rate below 23.0% in six of the eight starts. Unsurprisingly, Manaea has posted four strikeouts or fewer in each of those starts.

In fact, Manaea was actually under an 18.5% strikeout rate in all six of those outings. I should also note the fact he hasn't gone past 80 pitches since September 3rd.

He has been factually bad this season, worse as of late, and isn't pitching deep into games. All of this leads to the under 5.5 strikeouts tonight.
