3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Thursday 4/28/22

The New York Yankees are the top stack on today's afternoon slate. Which other offenses merit stacking?

Stacks are an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. They can push a team to the top of a GPP by driving upside. However, they're also viable in cash games, namely smaller (two-person or three-person) stacks that mitigate the volatility of a full four-person stack.

This article is your home throughout the 2022 Major League Baseball season for the day's top stacks. The primary goal is to identify the highest-scoring upside stack. Still, game theory will play a role in contrarian stacks making the cut as GPP options. Nevertheless, chalky stacks will make appearances in this space, too.

Now, let's look at the top stacks on today's main slate that starts on FanDuel at 12:35 pm ET.

New York Yankees

It's easy to allow early-season success to cloud our judgment. Thankfully, I'm not overreacting to Bruce Zimmermann's 1.20 ERA in three starts spanning 15 innings this year. So instead, I suggest stacking the New York Yankees against a lefty with a 4.59 ERA in his career.

In addition, according to FanGraphs, Zimmermann has had a 4.33 Skill-Interactive ERA (SIERA) while allowing 1.77 homers per nine innings. The 27-year-old southpaw adds to New York's pros column for stacking with his struggles against lefties and righties alike. Since last year, Zimmermann has allowed a .362 Weighted On-Base Average (wOBA) to lefties and a .342 wOBA to righties. As a result, you can stack any of the Bronx Bombers.

However, my favorite options are sluggers Aaron Judge ($3,700), Giancarlo Stanton ($2,800), and Josh Donaldson ($3,100). Since 2019, against lefties, they have had a .362 Isolated Power (ISO), .219 ISO, and .262 ISO, respectively.

Miami Marlins

I don't imagine this will often happen this year, but I suggest stacking the Miami Marlins on back-to-back days. After a dud at the dish last night, they have a get-right matchup with Patrick Corbin this afternoon.

At this point, I think it's more likely Corbin is designated for assignment than he turns it around for the Washington Nationals. Since 2020, he has had a 5.81 ERA with 1.72 homers per nine against him in 251 innings. Moreover, the lefty has been crushed for a .557 slugging and .390 wOBA by 641 right-handed batters since last year.

So, fire up Miami's right-handed batters with confidence. A few players I'm honed in on from the Marlins are Jorge Soler ($2,800), Garrett Cooper ($2,800), and Miguel Rojas ($2,200). Since 2019, Soler has had a .265 ISO against lefties, and Cooper has had a .219 ISO. Meanwhile, Rojas has had a 137 Weighted Runs Created Plus (wRC+) against southpaws, making him a steal at nearly the minimum salary.

Minnesota Twins

I admit it. I'm not as excited about stacking the Minnesota Twins as I am about loading up on Yankees and Marlins. Nevertheless, they have a few attractive righties with the platoon advantage against lefty Tarik Skubal.

The Detroit Tigers' starter today has yielded a .337 wOBA to 569 right-handed batters since last year. However, I'm more interested in the .489 slugging he's coughed up to them. As a result, my favorite stacking options from the Twins are those with the most pop in their bat.

It starts at the top with Byron Buxton ($4,500). The electrifying outfielder has had a .294 ISO against lefties since 2019. In addition, I like Gary Sanchez ($2,800) and his .258 ISO against southpaws since 2019 if he returns from abdominal tightness. Jorge Polanco ($3,100) and Gio Urshela ($2,600) are the final two players I'd use to round out a complete four-person stack.
