Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Thursday 9/2/21

Stacks are the backbone of cashing daily fantasy baseball lineups. Correlation drives upside, creating the potential to place high or even win GPPs when your selected stacks explode offensively.

This column will do the digging and the dirty work to determine which stacks are worth rostering each day. Scoring upside will fuel the stacks that get the nod. Sometimes that will lead to chalky selections, but contrarian stacks will get their fair share of love too.

In addition to utilizing the touted daily stacks in handbuilt lineups, numberFire premium members can throw these highlighted stacks into an optimized lineup using our DFS Sharpstack tool. Our hitting heat map tool is also available to premium members looking for more stacking options. It provides valuable info such as implied total, park factors, and stats for identifying the quality of the opposing pitcher.

Let's take a look at the top stacks on today's main slate.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves will receive an offensive boost with a trip to Coors Field tonight. According to the park factors at FantasyPros, Coors Field ranks second in doubles and homers, and it's the leader for runs, singles, and triples. It's a hitter's paradise.

However, Atlanta's offense gets an extra lift facing Chi Chi Gonzalez. According to FanGraphs, the veteran righty has a 6.08 ERA, 4.97 expected fielding independent pitching (xFIP), and 5.15 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA). In addition, Gonzalez has struggled at home in his career, recording a 5.33 ERA, 5.25 xFIP, and .345 weighted on-base average (wOBA) allowed.

The entirety of Atlanta's lineup is in the discussion for stacking. In fact, utilizing a wrap-around stack with the bottom of the order or dropping a top hitter or two from their lineup is one way to differentiate from the chalky Braves stacks. Still, my favorite options include Jorge Soler ($3,600), Austin Riley ($3,700), and Freddie Freeman ($4,000). Soler's smacked 14 homers with a .370 on-base percentage, .331 isolated power (ISO), and 153 weighted runs created plus (wRC+) in 166 plate appearances in the second half.

Riley's enjoying a breakout 2021 season. Further, he's teed off on righties, ripping off a .397 on-base percentage, .260 ISO, and 157 wRC+ against them. Finally, Freeman has a track record of excellence against righties, tallying a .427 on-base percentage, .273 ISO, and 161 wRC+ since 2019.

Colorado Rockies

I love the Braves tonight. However, I'm more enamored with the host Colorado Rockies. They give visiting hurlers the business in their hitter-friendly confines. In fact, the Rockies lead Major League Baseball in wOBA (.357) and ISO (.206) at home this year. Their entire offense is stackable tonight, with their home excellence in mind.

However, allow me to call your attention to my favorite four-person stack. Connor Joe ($3,100) headlines it. He's hit his way to the top of the order. Still, he's even more dangerous at home, amassing a .430 on-base percentage, .299 ISO, and 155 wRC+.

C.J. Cron ($3,900) is the next man-up. In 143 plate appearances against righties at Coors Field this year, he owns a .399 on-base percentage, .319 ISO, and 152 wRC+. The final two players who round out my preferred stack are Ryan McMahon ($3,300) and Sam Hilliard ($2,400). The former has a .399 on-base percentage, .276 ISO, and 151 wRC+ against righties at home in 2021. Meanwhile, the latter's recorded a .360 ISO and 115 wRC+ in 123 plate appearances at home against righties in his young career.
