3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 9/24/19

Acuna

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your shortlist of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Max Scherzer, P, Washington Nationals

FanDuel Price: $10,600

Max Scherzer is just one of the many impressive pitching options available on tonight's full slate. Mad Max has put together another great season, with a 2.37 FIP and 34.8% strikeout rate and faces the offensively average Philadelphia Phillies. However, Scherzer has not made it through seven innings since returning from the Injured List in late August. With the Nationals all but guaranteed to make the playoffs, they will likely be conservative with Scherzer in what could be his final regular season start. At his price point, Scherzer seems unlikely to be given a long enough leash to provide value.

Consider paying up for Mike Clevinger ($11,600) as he faces the Chicago White Sox.

Nolan Arenado, 3B, Colorado Rockies

FanDuel Price: $3,800

While the Colorado Rockies have disappointed this year, Nolan Arenado has continued to mash, hitting over 40 home runs and over .300. While Arenado does hit lefties, like tonight's opponent Madison Bumgarner, slightly better he figures to be a victim of leaving Coors Field for Oracle Park. Arenado sees his average drop 75 points away from home and Oracle Park in San Francisco is one of the least hitter-friendly in the league. Arenado's price does not reflect the run-scoring environment in tonight's game.

Rafael Devers ($3,900) should have more success against the Texas Rangers.

Ronald Acuna Jr., OF, Atlanta Braves

FanDuel Price: $4,400

Ronald Acuna needs only three stolen bases to join the 40-40 club at only 21 years old. The sophomore phenom has accumulated 5.5 WAR and a 126 wRC+ for the Atlanta Braves who will be in the postseason for the second straight year. However, compared to all of the outfielders in the same price range, Acuna has a much worse matchup. Opposing pitcher Danny Duffy has held righties to a .316 wOBA in what has been a down year.

Instead of Acuna, start any Astros' outfielder with a pulse against Justin Dunn and the Seattle Mariners.
