3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 9/16/19

Nico Hoerner is off to a hot start for the Cubs, but is due for some regression. Is he a player to fade tonight and who else should we stay away from?

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your shortlist of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Dakota Hudson, P, St. Louis Cardinals

FanDuel Price: $8,600

The St. Louis Cardinals' most recent player development success is rookie right-hander, Dakota Hudson. In his first full season, Hudson has a 3.38 ERA through 159.2 innings. However, his 4.96 FIP suggests that he has been the beneficiary of good luck and some regression may be on the horizon. Hudson also has low upside due to his 17.8% strikeout rate and a tough matchup against the Washington Nationals who have the fourth-lowest strikeout mark in the league.

Fade Hudson in favor of Jose Berrios ($8,500) on tonight's slate.

Jose Abreu, 1B, Chicago White Sox

FanDuel Price: $4,000

In another losing season for the Chicago White Sox, Jose Abreu has served as a bright spot smacking 33 home runs while maintaining a 119 wRC+. Although Abreu has mashed lefties this season, he has been roughly average against righties as shown by his .320 wOBA. Facing righty Jose Berrios of the Minnesota Twins, Abreu figures to struggle to make good contact against Berrios' tough breaking pitches. With plenty of other options at 1B tonight, leave Abreu on the bench.

Matt Olson ($3,700) has a better matchup and comes at a cheaper price.

Nico Hoerner, SS, Chicago Cubs

FanDuel Price: $3,700

Nico Hoerner has ignited the Chicago Cubs' offense since being called up, hitting .379 with two home runs in seven games. His hot start has caused his salary to shoot up to the level of elite shortstops despite the small sample size. Considering Hoerner's minor league numbers, it seems unlikely that he will be able to maintain production anywhere near this level. In 70 games at AA this year, Hoerner only hit three home runs while hitting .284.

Leave Hoerner out of your lineup for the time being until his production stabilizes. Jorge Polanco ($3,400) should provide more consistent production.
