3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 9/3/19

With a negative park shift against him, is Trevor Story a player to avoid tonight? What other players should you stay away from?

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your shortlist of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Zack Greinke, P, Houston Astros

FanDuel Price: $10,200

Despite their long track record of squeezing the most out of their pitchers, the Houston Astros have not been helpful to Zack Greinke since acquiring him at the trade deadline from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since joining the Astros, Greinke has experienced a 6.4% decrease in strikeout rate while his FIP is a middling 4.27 while pitching for the Astros. Furthermore, in a national league park, Greinke is more likely to be pulled early in favor of a pinch hitter.

Jack Flaherty ($10,000) is an alternative high-cost option with a favorable matchup against the San Francisco Giants.

Trevor Story, SS, Colorado Rockies

FanDuel Price: $3,700

When discussing the best young shortstops it can be easy to overlook Trevor Story, however, Story is on his way to a second consecutive 5 WAR season with at least 30 home runs. Despite the praise, Story is best left on the bench tonight in his matchup against Julio Urias. Urias has reverse splits and has limited righties to a .247 wOBA. The Los Angeles Dodgers also lead the league with 122 Defensive Runs Saved which will limit Soty's ability to reach base and therefore steal bases.

Consider Jon Berti ($3,300) who has shown a nice combination of power and speed in his first few weeks in the majors.

Jose Altuve, 2B, Houston Astros

FanDuel Price: $4,100

Jose Altuve is the most expensive second baseman on a somewhat thin slate for the position. Altuve will be going up against righty Jordan Lyles of the Milwaukee Brewers who has held righties to a .292 wOBA. Altuve has been mostly average against righties with a .340 wOBA compared to an insane .493 against lefties.

Without many high priced options, if you are going to spend the salary to start Altuve you want to ensure he has a good matchup and will accumulate points. Considering the situation, Altuve is best left on the bench in favor of a cheaper alternative like Jonathan Schoop ($3,100).
