3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 8/19/19

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your short list of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Ivan Nova, P, Chicago White Sox

FanDuel Price: $7,700

If you are searching for value at the pitcher spot tonight, make sure to stay clear of righty Ivan Nova. Although Nova hurled a complete game in his last outing his FIP on the season currently sits at 5.02. Nova only strikes out 14.3% of batters which further limits his upside. His opponent, the Minnesota Twins, have a .342 wOBA against righties, which is good for the fourth-best in the majors. Nova figures to struggle against such a strong lineup.

Saving money with Eric Lauer ($6,300) allows for a higher upside and a chance to pay for some elite hitters.

Dan Vogelbach, 1B, Seattle Mariners

FanDuel Price: $3,800

Lefty Dan Vogelbach has light-tower power, but he has struggled against lefties this season. Vogelbach has a .273 wOBA against lefties compared to .380 against righties and only five of his 27 homers against lefties. In an admittedly small sample, opposing pitcher Brendan McKay has limited lefties to a .259 wOBA. The Tampa Bay Rays strong bullpen also figures to present Vogelbach with difficult matchups throughout the game.

Yulieski Gurriel ($3,700) has an enticing matchup against Edwin Jackson and the Detroit Tigers.

Hunter Renfroe, OF, San Diego Padres

FanDuel Price: $3,100

Hunter Renfroe has had a very strong season up to this point but still has a lot of swing and miss in his approach as he strikes out in over 28% of plate appearances. His opposition tonight, the controversial Trevor Bauer, has already struck out over 200 batters while limiting righties to a .281 wOBA. Renfroe sees his wOBA drop over 60 points when facing righties.

Whit Merrifield ($3,200) should provide more value at a similar price point.
