3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 5/31/19

When being contrarian in daily fantasy sports, there's a fine line between taking a calculated risk and being reckless. But differentiating your lineups from everyone else is the name of the game if you plan on taking down one of those highly lucrative DFS tournaments. Whether it's because of Vegas totals, other options at a given position, or some gem you've found that everyone is overlooking, we can always find potential under-owned plays if we look hard enough.

Here are three such players to consider branching out for on FanDuel's main slate

Joey Lucchesi, P, San Diego Padres

FanDuel Price: $7,600

We have a jam-packed 15-game slate and six pitchers over $9K, but can we find some lower owned tournaments options in the mid-tier?

Dropping off the top pitchers can always be a tough decision, but the salary savings are tremendous tonight when Coors Field ( Colorado Rockies) and Globe Life Park in Arlington (Texas Rangers) are in play.

Joey Lucchesi comes in with five or more strikeouts in four of his last six starts, while allowing three or fewer earned runs in five of those same six starts. Those numbers are certainly very viable tonight since he is up against the Miami Marlins who have a 62 wRC+ (30th in the league) and .103 ISO (30th in the league) versus lefty pitchers. The Marlins are bad, shocking, I know.

Lucchesi offers the perfect mix of enough salary savings along with a superb matchup for him to be a viable tournament option tonight.

Brandon Crawford, SS, San Francisco Giants

FanDuel Price: $2,600

Brandon Crawford is hitting right around the Mendoza Line this season but is facing a historically bad pitcher tonight you want to stack against.

The San Francisco Giants certainly don't have the best offense in the league, but they are gaining a positive park shift tonight being on the road to take on the Baltimore Orioles. On the bump for Baltimore will be Andrew Cashner, who might be off to a solid start this season, but if we look back to 2018, we can see he allowed 1.73 homers per nine innings, a .361 wOBA, and a 5.00 xFIP against left-handed hitters.

Those are truly horrible numbers versus lefty hitters and Crawford should know since he has nine hits, seven RBI's, and one home run in his career against Cashner. Amazing savings with Crawford along with some historic success is a combo you shouldn't pass up.

Domingo Santana, OF, Seattle Mariners

FanDuel Price: $3,400

The Seattle Mariners could seemingly do no wrong in the first month of the season, but they have fallen off a cliff and are now sitting at the bottom of the AL West, does that means their players are being passed on?

With hits in five of his last six games, Domingo Santana is a player trying to produce regardless of the fact the Mariners have won only one of their last 10 games. His splits this season are still as strong as ever with a .335 wOBA, .271 ISO, and 27.3% home-run-to-fly-ball rate versus lefty pitchers. The Mariners come in sporting a 4.54 implied run total tonight, which is sneaky good considering they are at home in a solid pitcher's park.

That implied run total comes from the fact they are up against Tyler Skaggs, who is carrying a 4.51 xFIP, 42.9% hard-contact, and 38.8% fly-ball rate versus right-handed hitters. A somewhat off the board stack/player on a team who is struggling to find their footing right now.
