3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Avoid on 8/17/16
As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.
While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.
Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Wednesday.
Khris Davis, OF, Oakland Athletics
FanDuel Price: $3,700
Khris Davis has been crushing the ball lately. Outside of an 0-for-4 day against the Texas Rangers two nights ago, Davis has at least 10 FanDuel points in four of his last five games. However, tonight against Yu Darvish, Davis might not be a great player to target.
Darvish has been lights out when healthy this season. The Rangers’ ace has limited right-handed bats to a .286 wOBA with a 31.5% strikeout rate in 2016. Throughout his career, righties have just a .270 wOBA and a 32.5% strikeout rate versus Darvish.
Davis has just a .335 wOBA against righties this season, and his strikeout rate goes up to 27.4%.
Tim Anderson, SS, Chicago White Sox
FanDuel Price: $2,700
Tim Anderson is another player who has been red-hot recently. Over his last three games, he is averaging 17.36 FanDuel points and has now hit safely in nine straight games. However, Anderson and the Chicago White Sox have to go up against Carlos Carrasco Wednesday night, which could mean landmines all around for the Sox.
Anderson has just a .285 wOBA against right-handers this season while his strikeout rate climbs to 28.9%. Anderson’s ISO against righties falls to .129 -- down from .195 when he hits against lefties -- and his OPS is just .665 against righties, compared to .894 against lefties.
Right-handers have a .273 wOBA against Carrasco this season. With Anderson’s high strikeout rate against righties, it’s not the night to roster the Sox’ shortstop.
Scooter Gennett, 2B, Milwaukee Brewers
FanDuel Price: $2,600
Scooter Gennett is another player with a tough matchup as the Milwaukee Brewers face off against Jon Lester and the Chicago Cubs. The Brewers already have one of the highest team strikeout rates against lefties, but Gennett could have even more trouble against Lester in this one.
Gennett has a .326 wOBA against southpaws with a 26.4% strikeout rate. Gennett does walk a lot more against lefties, but his fly-ball rate is only 27.3% against left-handed pitchers.
Lester has been lights out against left-handers this season, holding them to just a .267 wOBA. His strikeout rate against lefties is 27.4% with a fly-ball rate of only 24.7%.
