Matt Shoemaker, P, Los Angeles Angels

FanDuel Price: $8,500

Why He Will Go Overlooked:

Due to his 5-10 record and 3.99 ERA, most don't realize how effective Matt Shoemaker has been. Also, Vegas wasn't kind to Shoemaker in this one, projecting the Kansas City Royals for 4.3 runs, which is the sixth-most on the slate. They also projected the Angels to score just 4.2 runs against Danny Duffy. Lack of run support has been a frustrating theme for Shoemaker this season, and with another potentially bad showing from his offense, daily fantasy players are likely to stay away.

Why You Should Use Him:

Here are Shoemaker's numbers since he started throwing his splitter more on May 21: 2.39 ERA (would rank 3rd on the year), 1.02 WHIP (8th), 28.3% strikeout rate (6th), 3.0% walk rate (3rd), and 15.6% swinging-strike rate (2nd).

He'll carry that success into tonight's start against the reeling Royals. The defensing champs rank 23rd in wOBA against righties on the year, and they have really struggled recently, ranking 28th in wOBA and posting the 8th-highest strikeout rate over the past two weeks.

We saw how much of a mess Kansas City's offense is last night, when they made Tyler Skaggs look like Clayton Kershaw. Maybe the only thing that can keep Shoemaker from posting a big point total in this one is Duffy holding the Los Angeles bats in check and costing him a win. Regardless, with no obvious options at pitcher today, Shoemaker is a viable play in all formats.
