Max Scherzer, SP, Washington Nationals

FanDuel Price: $11,300

With 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings this season, Max Scherzer has continued his streak of five straight seasons at 10.0 or higher. When a pitcher has been this consistent in striking out batters, his floor makes it easy to pay $11,300.

Scherzer has been great this season except in one area -- home runs allowed. He’s suffering from a career-high 16.5 home run to fly-ball ratio despite allowing only a 24.9 percent hard-hit rate, a six-year low for Scherzer. Some regression is due in this department, and we should soon see his 1.63 home runs per nine drop to his career levels.

He’s pitched six-plus innings in all but one start this season. That one start? It was against tonight’s matchup, the Chicago Cubs, when he allowed four home runs.

But the Cubs aren’t necessarily a must-avoid matchup. Despite their record, they’re not dominant against right-handed pitching -- they rank 13th in strikeout rate, 14th in isolated slugging, and 7th in wOBA. In the first meeting, although he was shelled, Scherzer still struck out seven batters.

As a -145 favorite tonight at home, Scherzer is still an elite option.
