Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks offense has only produced a 77 wRC+ in September and have a middling 3.77 implied total, so they're an easy team to write off tonight. But despite their struggles, we always like Paul Goldschmidt versus a lefty, so he's a worthwhile option against Eric Lauer.

Lauer has a pedestrian 4.66 SIERA, 19.7% strikeout rate and 9.4% walk rate, and he's allowed a boatload of hard contact in a 40.5% hard-hit rate. While Lauer has performed well in four starts since coming off the DL in August, that doesn't erase his overall mediocrity for the season.

Goldschmidt owns an absurd career 168 wRC+ against lefties, and this season, he's putting up a 50.4% hard-hit rate, .281 ISO, and .444 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) in the split. Petco Park isn't a particularly hitter-friendly ball park, but getting those kinds of numbers are potentially lower ownership is perfect for tournaments.
