Max Scherzer has a shot at notching his first ever 300-strikeout season -- needing 10 more punchouts as he takes on the Miami Marlins tonight.

In his fourth consecutive season with a strikeout rate north of 30.0%, Scherzer is sporting a stellar 34.6% strikeout rate in 2018, which is good for second among qualifying pitchers and is buoyed by a top-ranked 16.1% swinging-strike rate.

He's got double-digit strikeouts in 7 of his last 11 games, and he's a major threat to do it again in a matchup with a Marlins team that strikes out at the 10th-highest rate (22.8%) against right-handed pitching.

And it's not just strikeout upside that makes Scherzer a top option tonight. His 2.72 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) ranks second among qualifying pitchers, the Washington Nationals are the day's biggest favorites by a huge margin (-370 moneyline) and the Marlins' 2.68 implied total is the day's lowest.
