James Paxton, P, Seattle Mariners

FanDuel Price: $9,200

While Blake Snell may be the clear-cut number one option on the mound tonight, we have an embarrassment of riches on this slate, with notable names like Aaron Nola, Carlos Carrasco, Patrick Corbin, Gerrit Cole, and Clayton Kershaw all pitching tonight, along with potential value plays like Chris Archer and Steven Matz. While not all of these hurlers have great matchups -- Kershaw is in Coors Field for instance -- there are a lot of viable ways to go on the mound this Friday.

But one particular guy who may not draw much attention is James Paxton in an unenviable spot against the New York Yankees. Despite the matchup, Paxton has been one of the top hurlers of 2018, posting a 3.04 SIERA, 31.9% strikeout rate, and 7.0% walk rate. He made his first start since August 14th last week against the Oakland Athletics, and showed little in the way of rust, punching out 10 over 5 innings while allowing 3 earned runs. Just as importantly, he tallied 98 pitches, so there shouldn't be any workload concerns tonight.

The Yankees may be dangerous, but they see a park factor downgrade in Seattle, and are actually showing just a 3.73 implied total. Particularly in a west coast game, Paxton is a prime candidate to fly under the radar, and has as much upside as anyone, while only being the ninth-most expensive pitcher of the slate.
