While they face an uphill battle as we enter baseball's last month of the season, one of the surprise stories of the second half has been the Tampa Bay Rays, who are now 9 games over the .500 mark at 71-62, which includes a recent sweep of the Boston Red Sox.

Tampa Bay has done this with solid pitching and a very strong offense. Over the last two weeks they check in at fifth in team weighted on-base average (wOBA; .344), and 10th in hard-hit rate (36.5%).

That all makes Corey Kluber's hefty price tag a tough pill to swallow. Diving a bit deeper, Kluber is on pace for a 24.6% strikeout rate, his worst in five seasons, and his hard-hit rate has jumped up from a career average of 28.7% to this year's mark of 36.2%.

Kluber is still having a solid season, but is in a tough spot tonight.
