Matt Carpenter, 1B, St. Louis Cardinals

Matt Carpenter didn't have a particularly noteworthy performance on Tuesday, but he was only owned in 4.74% of FanDuel lineups, showing we can still grab him at low ownership in soft matchups, like last night's against Ivan Nova. We have a similar situation on Wednesday, with the St. Louis Cardinals offense playing second-fiddle to more prominent matchups for teams like the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

But St. Louis is still in a solid spot against Trevor Williams, who may be having a good season in terms of ERA (3.44), but it's not backed up by his peripherals, with a poor 4.96 SIERA and fortuitous .251 BABIP. He's only managing a 12.0% strikeout rate against left-handed batters, leaving him vulnerable to Carpenter's impressive marks at the plate.

You can pick any number of gaudy stats, but Carpenter has looked unstoppable at times this year, posting a 50.4% hard-hit rate, 47.0% fly-ball rate, .302 ISO, and .426 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA). We'll happily take that upside in tournaments.
