3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 8/9/18

Right up front, we have to acknowledge that there's a lot going against Ross Stripling on Thursday. Not only is he pitching in Coors Field, but it's his first start off the DL after missing his last turn in the rotation with a toe injury. Furthermore, it wasn't like Stripling was tearing it up in his last couple starts since the All-Star break, allowing a combined nine earned runs and four bombs over 8 2/3 innings.

All that being said, on a short slate with limited value options at pitcher, Stripling may still be worth a whirl in tournaments. There isn't a ton of value among tonight's top offenses in the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Boston Red Sox, so taking a chance on Stripling will go a long way towards finding the necessary extra salary.

If Stripling's recent struggles were all simply injury-related, it isn't inconceivable that he bounces back tonight and displays some of that 2.92 SIERA, 28.0% strikeout rate, and 3.5% walk rate we've grown accustomed to this season. Of course, nothing is ever assured at Coors Field, but given the potential upside, that's a risk that might be worth taking.
