Ian Happ is wallowing in the eight-hole tonight, but we shouldn't hesitate to use him in any Cubs stacks against a beatable Heath Fillmyer. Fillmyer has posted a poor 5.14 SIERA, 14.0% strikeout rate, and 11.6% walk rate over 30 1/3 innings, and when you couple that with his Triple-A results (5.75 ERA), we're not exactly shaking in our boots.
Vegas agrees, handing the Cubbies a slate-high 5.29 implied team total.
Happ's .194 ISO against right-handers doesn't quite jump off the page, but when you consider his 43.6% hard-hit rate and 38.5% fly-ball rate, it's hard not to like the potential upside, regardless of his spot in the batting order. Furthermore, if you combine his splits with 2017, he holds a cool .355 wOBA and .246 ISO versus righties for his career. As one of the cheaper Chicago bats tonight, he's well worth a shot as a salary-saver.
